David Diedrich launched Berkshire CFO in 2016 after ten years in staff roles of nonprofits. For years, he has partnered with organizations to improve back-office operations, resolve structural deficits, improve team dynamics, tighten processes, strengthen compliance, and build high performing teams. David has served as an interim CFO, a project consultant, and long-term, fractional CFO. He has worked with over 30 nonprofits and has completed more than 50 engagements.

As an interim CFO, he ensures continuity and accountability. He manages the finance function and leads the team to set up the incoming CFO for success. As a fractional CFO, he provides expertise scaled to the specific needs and budget of small nonprofits with lean administrative teams.

David adds value to high-stakes decisions that he navigates regularly. Project services include selecting and implementing new software tools to advising on governance. Projects include improving team productivity, growing program revenue, upgrading service providers for audit, insurance, payroll, HR, IT, software implementations, and outsourced bookkeeping, and updating policies and procedures.

David has worked for The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel; the National Immigration Law Center; the CFA Society of New York; the International Budget Partnership; AIGA, the professional association for design; the International Foodservice Distributors Association; Namati, and numerous other nonprofits.

David Diedrich was the CFO at the Council of Better Business Bureaus, Association of Corporate Counsel, and N Street Village. He consulted for entrepreneurs with the Small Business Administration and was a Peace Corps Volunteer for a microloan institution in Mali.

David is active in local nonprofits and served as chair of FAR, an association of nonprofit business leaders in greater DC. He has served in several local volunteer capacities and has presented at conferences and workshops for ASAE, GWSCPA, and Association Trends.
Diedrich earned an MBA from Wayne State University and a BBA in Finance from Western Michigan University. He holds the COSO Internal Control Certificate and completed Harvard's executive education program, Performance Measurement for Effective Management in Nonprofits. Originally from Detroit, he now lives in Washington, DC.
